About Us

ABOUt BTAL

We are committed to transforming organic waste into sustainable energy solutions.

Biogas Technologies Africa Limited (BTAL) was founded on the belief that biodegradable waste is a valuable resource. Over 20 years ago, John Afari Idan saw the potential of converting discards into biogas to cut energy costs, improve public health, and protect the environment.

BTAL transforms biodegradable waste into clean energy, serving rural communities and major institutions across Africa. Through innovation and capacity-building, we collaborate with governments, NGOs, and businesses to drive a circular economy for a greener future.

our mission

“To harness biodegradable organics and transform them into renewable energy, fostering sustainability and empowering communities across Africa.”

We transform waste into opportunity, turning organic discards into clean energy and economic growth. Through advanced biogas technology, training, and partnerships, we drive lasting impact—lowering energy costs, improving sanitation, and combating climate change.

Key Elements of Our Mission

  • Resource Optimization
  • Community-Centric Approach
  • Sustainability at Scale
our vision

“To make biogas the leading substitute and sustainable companion to LPG across Africa, ensuring energy security, environmental preservation, and broad-based economic empowerment.”

We envision a continent where communities no longer rely on polluting, expensive, or fossil-based fuels. Instead, they tap into biodegradable organics and other local resources for a cleaner, cost-effective energy future. In this vision.

Capacity Building

Leading training workshops and certification programs to equip local engineers, technicians, and entrepreneurs with the know-how to replicate and scale up biogas solutions.

Awards & Recognitions

Why These Achievements Matter

Each milestone underscores BTAL’s core philosophy: that every biodegradable organic stream can spark new jobs, save costs, and protect local ecosystems. Our projects, recognized by international bodies and local communities alike, stand as proof that discards are truly wealth in transit (MINT).

United Nations University & African Development Institute

Applauded for integrating climate change solutions with innovative finance and waste management strategies.

COTVET (Council for Technical & Vocational Education and Training), Ghana

Accredited to train local professionals in biogas installation and maintenance—spreading skill development and economic opportunity.
