The Living Project
The Living Project is BTAL’s flagship national initiative designed to transform Ghana’s biodegradable organics—those materials in transit (MINT)—into a sustainable power source for homes, businesses, and institutions. By converting these discards into clean, renewable biogas, The Living Project drastically reduces pollution, stabilizes energy costs, and strengthens local economies. Through large-scale biogas adoption, we’re pioneering a future where every “waste” stream is recognized for its true value.
OUR SERVICES
Vision & Purpose
Create new revenue streams for families, smallholder farms, or businesses that supply organic discards.

Offer reliable, cost-effective power for cooking, heating, and even electricity generation, especially in remote or underserved areas

Establish large-scale biogas plants that handle urban and rural discards, including fecal and food-based organics.

Key Components
Transforming Organic discards into sustainable biogas solutions.

Install high-capacity digesters to convert waste into biogas for use or distribution.
- Install high-capacity digesters in strategic locations (e.g., major cities, high-volume markets).
- Convert a variety of biodegradable organics into biogas for direct use or for bottling and distribution, enabling widespread access.
Collaborate with governments, businesses, and NGOs to fund and expand biogas use.
- Collaborate with government agencies, private companies, and NGOs to streamline implementation and secure funding.
- Advocate supportive policies that incentivize discard-to-energy solutions, making it easier for communities to adopt biogas.
Work with locals and provide training for sustainable biogas use.
- Work hand-in-hand with local leaders, households, and entrepreneurs to ensure project acceptance and sustainable management.
- Provide targeted training programs, equipping residents with the skills needed to build, maintain, and expand biogas systems.
Promote organic waste reuse and bio-slurry for agriculture and income.
- Encourage households, institutions, and businesses to sell or donate their organic materials in transit (MINT).
- Produce bio-slurry (organic fertilizer) as a by-product, contributing to regenerative agriculture and further boosting local income potential.
Milestones & Future Plans

1
Phase 1: Institutional & Public Facilities
Launch pilot projects in schools, hospitals, prisons, and government buildings, showcasing cost savings and improved sanitation.

2
Phase 2: Regional Production Centers
Establish multi-district biogas hubs that process significant volumes of organic discards.

3
Phase 3: Nationwide Rollout & Beyond
Develop biogas refilling stations and pipeline infrastructure for even more efficient distribution.
OUR SERVICES
Impact & Benefits
Provides employment for engineers, construction crews, technicians, and operators in the biogas sector.

Upgrades sanitation by converting fecal and organic discards into usable energy rather than letting them accumulate in dumps.

Reduces reliance on expensive, imported fuels like LPG, lowering monthly fuel expenses for families and businesses.

Protects soil and water systems from contamination by diverting discards from open dumps or poorly managed sewage systems
